The
Nee Soon South Community Club Indian Activity Executive Committee (NSS
IAEC) was formed in 14 February 1996. The current chairman of NSS
IAEC is Mr. P Thirunal Karasu. He took over the chairmanship in mid
1997. NSS IAEC is a
grassroots organisation under the purview of the People's
Association. There are in total 80 IAECs.

Play
an active role in the overall well-being and upliftment of the
Indian Community, particularly those residing in the Nee Soon South
Constituency.

Organise
educational, social, cultural and recreational activities and
programs for the residents. Promote the Indian culture, customs,
beliefs and traditions amongst the Indian residents and other races.

Foster
goodwill and friendship among the residents. Encourage Indian
residents to actively participate in community activities and
contribute to the community.
About Us…
Over
the years, NSS IAEC has scaled up the People’s Association IAECs
ranking. From 57th position in 1998, it moved to 11th in 1999 and
4th in 2000. NSS IAEC topped the PA IAECs ranking system
consecutively for two years in 2001 and 2002.
NSS
IAEC’s primary focus is on education and places emphasize in
moulding Indian youths as all rounded students. It also places due
importance to promoting cultural, recreational, social, activities.
The
committee works closely with fellow NSS grassroots and has
established a strong rapport with SINDA, neighbourhood schools
(Primary to JC), PA Narpani Pearavai and Indian organisations. The
NSS IAEC’s emphasise on maximizing resources, expertise and
manpower has enabled it to organise activities and programmes for
mass participation.
Education
The
NSS IAEC organises numerous activities, focusing on educational,
social, recreational, cultural, etc throughout the year. It places due importance in working partnership with
neighbourhood schools, in particular to educational activities and
programmes. School camps, street soccer workshop, outdoor
activities, educational workshops & camps, English reading
classes for children (K1-P2), special GCE "O', "A"
level workshops, Mandarin conversational classes, yoga classes,
internet workshops, Indian classical Dance classes, tuition classes
for our adopted neighborhood schools’ students, etc, are some of
the activities it organises regularly.
Cultural
On
the cultural front, the Annual Constituency Deepavali Variety is
certainly a draw amongst residents. On average this annual event
attracts about 1,000 residents.
Social
As
for social activities, the committee organises weekly visits to the
SunLove Home, Samy Home and SiLRA Home. It also collects old
clothing and distributes provisions to these homes on adhoc basis.
Recreational
As
for recreational activities, the Annual Uncle Sundram school Holiday
Soccer Clinic-cum-Camp is a big draw amongst the students. The
committee also organises regular outings for members and its family
members as well as educational, temple, family picnics for
residents. It also participates actively in events, organized by
other Gross. Weekly-cum-adhoc sports workshops and camps. Our own
golf enthusiasts do also conduct weekly golf clinics for children.
It also organises golf classes for its members and own members do
take part in golf competitions as well. The NSS IAEC Youth Team came
in 4th in the BG Lee Hsien Loong National Street Soccer Tournament
2001. The Youth team came in third in the ANG MO KIO IAEC Street
Soccer Tournament in 2001.
One-Stop Information Centre
The
NSS IAEC has runs a one-stop information counter where it renders
assistance to families facing disputes and individuals who need a
listening ear to share their problems. Qualified counselors provide
this service to everyone seeking assistance at the counter,
regardless of race and religion.
Last
year, NSS IAEC was the proud co-organiser of "Flavours of Nee
Soon South", an event organised by the Nee Soon South
Constituency to showcase the multi-ethnic flavours of Singapore. The
event was held in conjunction with Racial Harmony Day on 21 July
2001. The occasion also witnessed the official launch of NSS
IAEC’s adhoc newsletter "Nammavar" by Deputy Prime
Minister Lee Hsien Loong.
Our Key Initiatives
NSS
IAEC has scored many firsts in its 5-year history. The NSS IAEC
website (iaec.org.sg) was officially launched by the Minister for
Foreign Affairs and Law, Professor S Jayakumar during the Indian New
Years Celebration on 8 April 1999. The NSS IAEC intranet was
officially launched by our Advisor Associate Professor Tan Boon Wan,
PBM during our Annual Planning Seminar 2002 in October last year.
The
Inaugural Pattimandram 1996 (Tamil Debate), Inaugural National Day
Tamil Pledge Taking-cum-Essay Writing competition 2001 at the Ang Mo
Kio GRC IAEC level, the Inaugural PSLE workshops, a series of
guidance workshops to prepare students for PSLE at Ang Mo Kio
District IAEC level in 2001, The Inaugural Ang Mo Kio GRC IAEC
Street Soccer-cum-Motivational Workshop was Youths, Ang Mo Kio GRC
IAEC Annual Deepavali Dinner-cum-Variety Show are some of the
activities NSS IAEC co-organised in 2001.
As
a gesture of appreciation to fellow GROs, Indian organisations,
individuals and well-wishers, NSS IAEC inaugurated its own annual
appreciation dinner entitled "PARTNERS IN HARMONY" in
2001. At the function, our Advisor AP Tan Boon Wan launched the NSS
IAEC Leaders Award. Our Asst Treasurer Mr. Raman and Logistics
Chairman Mr. Letchuman were awarded the inaugural awards.
Recognising Talents
Two
of our IAEC members were also awarded the Inaugural Nee Soon South
National Day Outstanding Grassroots Leaders Award. Our Chairman Mr P
Thirunal Karasu and Deputy Chairperson Ms Sithara Doriasamy were
awarded the inaugural awards in 2001. The awards were given in
recognition to grassroots leaders for their contributions in
promoting neighbourliness and racial harmony amongst residents.
Passion to Serve
NSS
IAEC continuously looks out for new ways to organise activities so
as to attract greater participation amongst residents. NSS IAEC strives forward with the total commitment and
dedication of its members to serve fellow Singaporeans.
